Christmas in February: HIMSS19 and “The Cloud”
Thinking about Data in New Ways
By: Jennifer Crandall, RN, BSN, Head of Product, MultiScale
Each year as I walk the show floor at HIMSS, I look to see the most popular buzzwords or tag lines. In recent years, I have noticed “Innovate” or a long time favorite “Interoperability”. As I walked the show floor at HIMSS 2019, I could not overlook the enormous bump in references to “the cloud” – and it seemed even more people were talking about it than last year. This made me smile to myself.

Doctors Without Data: Why one MD founded a startup just to get metrics on his own patients
MultiScale Health Network is a healthcare startup based out of a hospital in Seattle. Their customers are the clinicians themselves — “the people that touch other people and save lives,” as Stacey Kinkead, Chief Product Officer at MultiScale, puts it. It’s no secret that the American healthcare system often suffers from inefficiencies, like the inability to effectively share patient data across providers, or analyze what’s causing the bottlenecks in ER patient processing time. MultiScale Health Network was created to address some of the problems that clinicians face in getting their hands on the right patient data at the right time. MultiScale Health Network creates the Hive product suite and Clubhouse helps them put the information in the hands of the healers.
10 Tech Trends Likely To Have A Major Impact On Consumer Markets
Dr. Dan Low loves his job. It shows in almost everything he does.
Low is a pediatric anesthesiologist — he’s in charge of giving children all the medication and anesthesia they need during surgeries.
But in the past few years, Low has also taken on a new job. He is the founder and CEO of a new health technology startup, MDMetrix, that’s aiming to help doctors improve their work by giving them easy access to their own patients’ data.

HIMSS 18 was as energetic as usual. But, this year's keynote by former Google/Alphabet Chairman, Dr. Eric Schmidt, was nothing if not usual. He made a passionate plea in the form of a clarion call to action:
“Get to the cloud. Run to the cloud,” he told attendees. “Don’t stop, don’t walk, don’t think about it — just run. Take an airplane, fly to the cloud, whatever metaphor you care about.”
